New York – The West Virginia University distance medley relay squad posted the second-best time in school history on Friday, Feb. 27, at the New York Armory All-Comers Meet in New York City.
The tandem of seniors Jennifer Davis, Jennifer Kemp and Pam Richardson and junior Susan Davis recorded an NCAA provisional time of 11:12.12. Jennifer Davis ran the mile, Kemp the 800 meters, Richardson the 400 meters and Susan Davis the 1,200 meters.
The performance was the second-best time in school history behind the mark of 11:11.98 recorded by Kemp, Richardson, Aileen Smith and Megan Metcalfe at the 2003 NCAA championships.
According to head coach Jeff Huntoon, the time is the third fastest DMR time in the nation this season.
The DMR is one of three events that the Mountaineers find themselves nationally ranked. Prior to this weekend's action, the DMR squad was ranked seventh. Individually, Kemp is ranked 17th in the 800 meters and sophomore Jessica Czaikowski is 24th in the 60 meter hurdles.
“It looks like the Mountaineers have shaken off their illnesses pretty well,” Huntoon says in reference to his team’s illness plagued performance at the BIG EAST championships. “It looks like the team is ready to represent itself well at the ECAC and NCAA championships.”
The Mountaineers return to action on Mar. 4-6, when they travel to Boston to compete in the ECAC indoor championships.
