Women's Basketball: WVU Falls at Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Teresa Borton scored 18 points and Jacqueline Batteast added 15 to help No. 10 Notre Dame defeat West Virginia 82-57 in Big East women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Joyce Center.
Notre Dame outscored the Mountaineers 44-26 in the second half to turn a seven-point halftime lead into a 25-point victory.
The 25-point loss was West Virginia’s worst this season.
Notre Dame made 32 of 55 field-goal attempts for 58.2 percent and controlled the boards by a 39-30 advantage. The Irish were also an efficient 15 of 21 from the free throw line.
Megan Duffy contributed 12 points and 10 assists for Notre Dame, now 24-4, 12-3.
West Virginia got 16 points each from Yolanda Paige and Sherell Sowho. Freshman Olayinka Sanni contributed 13 points and four rebounds. WVU’s leading scorer Meg Bulger finished the game with nine points – 11 below her season average.
WVU shot 36.1 percent from the floor and committed 15 turnovers.
The Mountaineers drop to 16-10, 7-8 and finish out the regular season on Tuesday night against nationally ranked Connecticut. The game will tip off at 7 pm and will be televised by the Mountaineer Sports Network. It will also be the final regular season Coliseum appearance for WVU seniors Paige, Sowho and Ramika McGee.
