MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s tennis team looks to get back on the winning track when it hosts Toledo in non-conference action on Sunday, Feb. 27, in Pittsburgh.
The Mountaineers (4-3) are coming off a 7-0 loss to No. 75 Louisville on Feb. 18. In that setback, two of the contest’s singles matches went to three sets while WVU achieved victory at the No. 2 doubles position.
WVU enters the match with a 2-0 record at home and a perfect 4-0 mark against unranked opponents.
Toledo comes into Sunday’s match with a record of 5-3. The Rockets have won two out of their last three matches with identical 6-1 victories over Duquesne and Cleveland State. The team’s only loss in that period came to Michigan State, 7-0, on Feb. 20 in East Lansing, Mich.
To this point in the season, WVU and UT have two common opponents in No. 75 Louisville and Wright State. Both the Mountaineers and Rockets fell to Louisville, 7-0, while West Virginia defeated Wright State, 6-0, and Toledo defeated the Raiders, 5-2.
“Toledo is a much-improved team from a year ago,” coach Dan Silverstein says in reference to WVU’s 6-1 victory over UT last season. “With that said, we feel like we are a much better team this season too. It will be a good challenge and we are looking forward to a great match.”
Sunday’s match is scheduled to begin at approximately 2 p.m.
