MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia University junior linebacker Jay Henry was named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Football Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Henry, a Jenks, Okla., resident, was named to the first-team defense after a 2005 season in which recorded 58 tackles, 5.5 tackles for losses, recorded a pair of sacks and recovered one fumble. In the class room Henry received a perfect 4.0 grade point average in Finance.
"He hasn't made a B since he's been here and it's not even close," said West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez. "He's obviously a guy you want to study with on the team. He's the epitome of what you want in a student-athlete both on and off the field."
Also on the Academic All-American first team were record-setting Tulsa tight end Garrett Mills and standout Penn State linebacker Paul Posluszny.
