MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia returns to the WVU Coliseum Saturday to face Washington & Jefferson in a 4 pm non-conference matchup.
The Mountaineers evened their record at 3-3 following a 66-61 win over St. Bonaventure in Rochester, N.Y., Wednesday night. Forward Mike Gansey scored a season-high 28 points and Kevin Pittsnogle added 20 for WVU, which withstood a 21-0 second-half run by the Bonnies.
Gansey leads West Virginia in scoring with an average of 20.3 points per game. Pittsnogle is averaging 16.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
The 0-4 presidents have lost games to Carnegie Mellon, Allegheny, Ohio Wesleyan and Kenyon College to start the season. Six-eight center Josip Lucic-Jozak is W&J’s leading scorer averaging 13 points per game.
Tickets still remain for Saturday’s game and can be purchased by calling the Mountaineer Ticket Office toll-free at 1-800-WVU GAME. MSN’s radio coverage begins at 3:30 pm.
Meanwhile, the WVU women will travel to UNC Greensboro (1-3) to play a Saturday afternoon game against the Spartans. The 3-1 Mountaineers have won three straight since dropping a season-opening game against Texas San Antonio. Most recently, WVU beat Robert Morris 80-54 at the WVU Coliseum behind Meg Bulger’s 24 points. Bulger needs just four points to become the school’s 23rd 1,000-point scorer.
Bulger leads the team with an average of 16.8 points per game. Six-five senior Yelena Leuchanka comes off the bench to average 15 points and 11.5 rebounds per game, while 6-foot-2-inch center Olayina Sanni is averaging 11.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
Tip off for the WVU-UNCG game is set for 2 pm. Due to the high school state football playoffs, there will be no MSN coverage of the women’s game, but fans can follow the game via U-92’s live radio coverage.
