Women's Soccer: Mountaineers 19th In Final Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women’s soccer team has finished the 2005 season ranked the nation’s Top 20.
The Mountaineers, who went 15-6-0 and advanced to their sixth-straight NCAA tournament in 2005, earned the No. 19 spot in the NSCAA’s final poll.
WVU’s season was highlighted by an undefeated home record, five all-conference selections and three NSCAA all-region honorees. Junior goalkeeper Lana Bannerman set the school record for shutouts in a season (25) with the help of a defense that posted nine shutouts.
West Virginia’s 2005 schedule featured eight teams that ended the season ranked in the Top 25: No. 1 and national champion Portland, No. 2 Penn State, No. 8 Virginia, No. 14 Marquette, No. 15 Tennessee and No. 25 Connecticut.
The highest West Virginia has ever closed out a season was 10th (2003).
