MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior guard Meg Bulger set a career high with six three-pointers as the West Virginia University women’s basketball team downed visiting Robert Morris on Wednesday, 80-54, at the WVU Coliseum.
Bulger, whose previous high for three-pointers in a game was five, led all scorers with 24 points and rebounders with seven. She shot 6-11 from three-point range and 7-17 from the field.
Bulger is now just four points shy of reaching 1,000 for her career.
West Virginia (3-1) has now won three straight games and 24 straight non-conference home contests at home under Mike Carey.
Robert Morris (2-2), shooting 33.9 percent (19-56) from the field, had one scorer reach double figures as Le’Sheala Dawson sank 18 points, all on three-point shots.
Three other Mountaineers registered double figures, led by sophomore guard Chakhia Cole with 13 points, followed by senior center Yelena Leuchanka and sophomore center Olayinka Sanni with 10 apiece.
Cole and Leuchanka also snared six rebounds apiece as WVU held a 37-28 advantage on the boards.
WVU made half of its three-point shots (8-16) and finished the game shooting 52.7 percent (29-55) from the field. It marked the third straight contest the Mountaineers have shot over 50 percent from the field.
The Mountaineers trailed just once in the game in the opening four minutes and established a 10-point lead on a Britney Davis-White three-pointer with 6:12 remaining in the opening half.
West Virginia’s lead swelled to 13 points by halftime (36-23), and with just under 14 minutes to go in the second half junior forward Tameka Kelly sank three straight field goals giving the Mountaineers their first 20-point lead of the game at 50-30.
Robert Morris could only trim the deficit to 17 points and eventually trailed by as many as 28 points before the Mountaineers claimed the victory.
WVU moves to 17-1 all-time against the Colonials. WVU has won nine consecutive in the series with Robert Morris.
West Virginia returns to action Saturday, Dec. 3, for a non-conference road game at UNC Greensboro beginning at 2 p.m. WVU defeated the Spartans last year 67-39 in the season-opener.
