In addition, the BIG EAST also named Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia Chair of the BIG EAST Executive Committee, which has been expanded to six members. David C. Hardesty of West Virginia University will serve as Vice Chairman. The other members of the committee are Dr. Judy Genshaft of the University of South Florida, Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C. of the University of Notre Dame, Rev. Robert A. Wild, S.J. of Marquette University and immediate Past Chair Mark Nordenberg of the University of Pittsburgh.
The decisions were made at the league's annual Presidents Meeting, which was held in Philadelphia, Pa. on Nov. 1. The meeting was the first time that all 16 Chief Executive Officers of the BIG EAST officially assembled since the league formally expanded this past July. "The BIG EAST Conference Presidents and Chancellors were unanimously supportive of Michael and his leadership abilities," said Nordenberg. "Michael's guidance and resolve over the past several years have been invaluable to our recent expansion efforts, our relationship with the Bowl Championship Series and to our member schools. We have every confidence in his skills and look forward to working with him in the years ahead."
All appointments are effective immediately.
