MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Meg Bulger scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead West Virginia to an 83-39 victory over Fordham Saturday night at the WVU Coliseum.
Bulger was one of six double-digit scorers for the Mountaineers, now 2-1 on the season. Junior guard Brittany Davis-White contributed 13 and senior center Yelena Leuchanka came off the bench to score 12 points and grab 10 rebounds in 26 minutes of action. It was Leuchanka's third consecutive double-double to open the season.
Olayinka Sanni, Chakhia Cole and LaQuita Owens scored 11 points each for West Virginia.
The Mountaineers shot 53.4 percent for the game (31 of 58) including 60.7 percent (17 of 28) in the second half, outscoring the Rams 45-11 after leading by just 10 at halftime, 38-28. Fordham made just 3 of 25 shots in the second half for 12-percent shooting mark.
West Virginia made 9 of 14 3-point field goal attempts and owned a 45-25 rebounding advantage. WVU has now grabbed at least 45 rebounds in each of its first three games.
The win improves WVU's record to 23-0 at home in non-conference action under coach Mike Carey.
Fordham, members of the Atlantic 10 Conference, got 15 points from guard Daniela Roark.
West Virginia returns to the court Wednesday night against Robert Morris at the WVU Coliseum. Tip off will be 7 pm.
