Swimming: WVU 2nd, 3rd After Day One at Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The West Virginia University swimming and diving teams got off to a strong start at the Terrapin Cup Invitational on Thursday, Nov. 17, at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md.
The men ranked second with 263 points after the first day of competition while the women stand in third with 171 points.
"We had an amazing day here," head coach Sergio Lopez said. "Between prelims and finals we had some very impressive times and the most important is that the team looks very good for this time of the year."
The women got the Mountaineers going with a victory in the 200 free relay. Sophomores Erin Tudor, Elyse Fisher and freshmen Taylor Stallings and Rachel Fedyk comprised for the winning time of 1:35.68.
On the men's side, West Virginia placed second in the 200 free relay with seniors Chris Hagedorn, Kyle Williams, sophomore Nick Delic and freshman Andrew Langenfeld swimming a time of 1:20.79.
Sophomore Pablo Marmolejo continues his dominance in the 200 IM as he won with a time of 1:49.94.
Fedyk topped all times in the 50 free as she won with a time of 23.73.
Hagedorn set a new school record in the 50 free with a time of 20.15, placing second in that event.
The women placed third in the 400 medley relay with Stallings, Tudor, junior Anne Tierney and freshman Meghan Fiene finishing in a time of 3:54.59.
In the men's 400 medley relay, senior Rick Mann, Delic, Marmolejo and Hagedorn finished second with a time of 3:19.72.
Three swimmers swam NCAA "B" Standard times, with Chris Hagedorn and Andrew Langenfeld in the 50 free, and the 200 free relay team. There were also six more BIG EAST qualifiers, pushing the total to 29, including 15 men and 14 women.
"I have no doubt that we will only get better in the next two days," Lopez added.
