MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University wrestling team travels to Annapolis, Md., to compete in the eight-team Navy Classic at the Halsey Field House on Saturday, Nov. 19. Wrestling begins at 9 a.m.
“The purpose of this weekend is not to get caught up in the team scoring,” says head coach Craig Turnbull. “I want to see the guys get some matches and continue competing. The WVU Open was very successful in getting the guys experience and I expect the same from this weekend.”
In last weekend’s WVU Open two Mountaineers, Matt Lebe (157 pounds) and Kurt Brenner (174), both claimed titles at the tournament. WVU’s Chance Litton (174), Kyle Turnbull (125) and Brandon Rader all took second in their respective weight classes on the day.
Last season at the Navy Classic, Lebe won the lone individual championship for the Mountaineers en route to the team taking fifth-place overall. Zac Fryling will look to improve on his runner-up finish at the tournament.
Besides WVU, this year’s field of teams includes Campbell, Davidson, Duquesne, George Mason, McDaniel, Navy and Rutgers. For ticket information call 1-800-US4-NAVY.
