Men's Soccer: WVU Readies for Pitt

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University men’s soccer team hits the road to face BIG EAST rival Pitt in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m.
The Mountaineers (6-4-1, 2-2-1 BIG EAST) are coming off of a thrilling 3-3 tie in South Bend, Ind., against Notre Dame on Saturday, Oct. 1. Jarrod Smith played the role of hero for WVU as he tallied two goals in the last six minutes of play to earn the draw.
The Havelock, New Zealand, native leads the team on the season in goals (6) and points (14). Freshman forward Zak Boggs has also came up big offensively as he has scored four goals in his first 11 collegiate matches.
Junior goalkeeper has played every minute between the posts for West Virginia this season, tallying a 0.80 goals against average (GAA) in 1010 minutes of play.
The Panthers (2-6-1, 1-4-0 BIG EAST) will be looking for a win after getting beat 7-1 at home by Seton Hall on Saturday, Oct. 1. Leading goal scorer Dwayne Grant-Higgins scored Pitt’s only goal of the match for his fifth of the season.
Goalkeeper Justin Lowery has logged 450 minutes on the field for the Panthers, recording 33 saves and a 2.60 GAA.
Pitt will be looking for its first win against WVU since 2000. Since then the Mountaineers have won two matches and the teams have tied the other two.
West Virginia is 29-9-3 all-time against the Panthers. The 29 wins is the most by the Mountaineers against any opponent they have faced.
