Women's Soccer: New England Swing

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The 13th-ranked West Virginia University women’s soccer team travels to Connecticut and Providence for two pivotal weekend conference matches.
West Virginia plays at Connecticut on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m., and at Providence at 1 p.m., on the following Sunday.
The Mountaineers (9-3-3, 6-1-1) enter the weekend having won six straight matches and not having a lost a match since their Sept. 11 match at second-ranked Portland. Last weekend, WVU defeated Georgetown 2-1 in Washington, D.C.
West Virginia has already secured a spot in the BIG EAST tournament and has earned a first-round bye. Wins over UConn and Providence are needed to bring the Mountaineers within reach of home field advantage for the quarterfinal match. First and second place teams in each of the conference’s two divisions play to host to the quarterfinal matches. West Virginia is currently in third place, two points behind second-place Marquette and five points away from first-place Connecticut.
No. 11 UConn (12-3-1, 8-1-0) went 1-1 last weekend. The Huskies lost their first conference match of the season, 4-0, at the hands of No. 7 Notre Dame. UConn then rebounded with a victory over DePaul.
The last time West Virginia and Connecticut met on the pitch, the Mountaineers shut out the Huskies 1-0 at Morrone Stadium.
Providence (4-9-2, 1-6-2) plays Pitt on Friday night before meeting the Mountaineers on Sunday, Oct. 23. The Friars enter the weekend looking for just their second conference match of the season.
Last year, the Mountaineers beat the Friars 4-1 to open conference play.
