MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University men’s soccer team travels to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, October 19, to face American at 7 p.m. in its final non-conference match of the season.
The Mountaineers (8-5-2, 4-3-2) are coming off of a tough loss to BIG EAST blue division rival Seton Hall 3-1 on the road. Senior Devon McTavish tallied the only goal in the match for WVU.
West Virginia will look to tie the school’s single season shutout record against the Eagles, which stands at nine. The Mountaineers have been stuck at the eight shutout mark since the Georgetown match on October 8.
American (3-7-1, 2-2-0 Patriot League) lost its last match on Sunday, October 16, to Holy Cross 4-1 on the road. Garth Juckem and Sal Caccavale lead the Eagles offense as both have four goals apiece.
Goalkeeper Chris Sedlak leads AU from the goal. The Valrico, Fla., native has posted a 1.52 goals against average with 31 saves.
The two teams have only met once before with American winning 5-1 in 1988.
