MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University men’s soccer team heads north to face Seton Hall on the campus of the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, N.J., on Saturday, Oct. 14. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
The game location had to be changed to NJIT due to poor field conditions at the Pirates normal home field.
The Mountaineers (8-4-2, 4-2-1) are coming off of a 1-1 tie against Loyola Marymount on Wednesday, Oct 12, in Morgantown. After falling behind midway through the second half WVU’s Dan Stratford tied the match with only two minutes remaining on the clock.
West Virginia will look to keep its six game unbeaten streak alive as it has not been knocked off since Sept. 18, against Villanova. Much of that has been due to the solid play up front of forward Jarrod Smith who has seven goals and two assists to date. Also coming up big is goalkeeper Andy Wright and the Mountaineer defense that has posted a 0.69 goals against average through 14 matches.
The Pirates (8-2-2, 3-2-2 BIG EAST) will be hungry for a win against WVU as they currently sit behind the Mountaineers in the Blue Division rankings. SHU currently has 11 points good enough for second place, while West Virginia and UConn are tied for first with 13 points.
Seton Hall has been pounding teams as of late with its powerful offense. The team has outscored its opponents 37-11 this season and have seven players with at least two goals. The defense has not been bad either as it has allowed under one goal a game (0.96) and has recorded four shutouts.
The Mountaineers are 2-8 against the Pirates all-time with their last win in the series coming in 2002 in South Orange, N.J.
