MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women’s soccer team travels to Villanova and Georgetown for two weekend matches.
The 16th-ranked Mountaineers (8-3-3, 5-1-1) play at Villanova on Friday, Oct. 14, at 4 p.m., and at Georgetown the following Sunday at 1 p.m.
West Virginia looks to maintain its one point lead over Marquette for second place in the BIG EAST’s Division A and extend its five-match win streak over the weekend.
In Villanova (8-3-4, 4-0-3), WVU faces one of the BIG EAST’s two remaining teams with unbeaten conference records. The Wildcats are currently in second place in the conference’s Division B. They are led by Lindsey Finnegan’s six goals and three assists for 15 points.
Last season, the Wildcats beat West Virginia in the regular season and in the quarterfinal round of the BIG EAST tournament. In both matches, the Mountaineers dominated the shot column, but were unable to score and Villanova emerged with 1-0 victories.
Georgetown (11-3-1, 4-2-1) trails Villanova by two points in Division B. The Hoyas spilt their matches last weekend, falling to Louisville and downing Cincinnati. Georgetown plays host to Pitt on Friday evening before playing the Mountaineers on Sunday.
Last season, the Hoyas upset the Mountaineers, 1-0, in West Virginia’s last home match of the season. Overall, WVU owns a 7-2-0 record in matches versus Georgetown.
West Virginia closes out the 2005 regular season at Connecticut on Oct. 21 and at Providence on Oct. 23. Game times are set for 7 p.m., and 1 p.m., respectively.
