MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University men’s soccer team hosts Loyola Marymount on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The Mountaineers (8-4-1, 4-2-1 BIG EAST) are coming off of two crucial conference wins last week over Pitt (2-0) on the road and Georgetown (1-0) at home. The pair of clean sheets brings WVU’s shutout total for the season to eight, just one shy of tying the school record for a season set in 1989 and 1998.
Sophomore defender Andrew Halsell was named the BIG EAST defensive player of the week for his efforts in the two matches. The Quentin, Pa., native helped hold BIG EAST preseason offensive player of the year Ricky Schramm to only one shot in the match against Georgetown.
An NCAA tournament team last season, the Lions (4-4-2, 2-2-0 WAC) are surging as they knocked off No. 5 UC Santa Barbara, 2-1, at home in their last match on Sunday, Oct. 9. Bobby Burling leads the LMU offense so far this season with five goals and three assists.
WVU has never faced the Lions on a soccer field.
