The Mountaineers travel to Bloomsburg, Pa., on Saturday, Jan. 15, for an EWL dual with the Huskies at 6:30 p.m. Bloomsburg returns two NCAA qualifiers from last year’s team for 2004-05.
The day’s most anticipated matches will take place at 133, 165 and 174 pounds. Mountaineer 174-pounder Ryan Wilman will battle the Huskies’ Bryce Hasseman who is ranked 14th in the country after transferring from Northern Illinois.
The Mountaineers took eight of 10 matches to defeat the Huskies, 32-7, last year in Morgantown. WVU holds a 13-11-1 mark all-time against the Huskies and have won the last three meetings.
West Virginia then travels to Clarion for an EWL contest on Sunday, Jan. 16, for a dual meet beginning at 2 p.m. Clarion qualified five wrestlers to nationals a year ago and return EWL champion Chris Horning (157).
Two bouts feature nationally ranked wrestlers at 141 and 157 pounds. All-American and 10th-ranked Brandon Lauer will square off against 12th-ranked Frank Edgar. At 157 pounds, a rematch of the 2004 EWL Championships will take place with WVU’s 10th-ranked Matt Lebe and 12th-ranked Horning.
The Mountaineers defeated Clarion at home, 25-15, last season. WVU holds a 16-3-0 all-time advantage over the Golden Eagles, including five of the last six.
