Volleyball: WVU Swept by Coastal Carolina

DAYTON, Ohio – The West Virginia University volleyball team was defeated 3-0 (19-30, 25-30, 18-30) by Coastal Carolina in their second match of the Flyer Invitational on Saturday, Sep. 4, in Dayton, Ohio.
The Mountaineers (0-2) allowed the Chanticleers to jump out to an early 8-4 lead in game one and never regained control through the rest of the contest.
Coastal took advantage of another early spurt en route to a 9-2 lead in game two. The Mountaineers then went on their own 8-4 run to close the gap to 13-10. After trading points with one another, Coastal put the game away with a 30-25 victory.
West Virginia never found their stride in game three. The Chanticleers opened up with a 13-3 advantage and didn’t allow WVU to get any closer than eight points through the rest of the game.
Junior Stephanie Zolna once again paced the Mountaineers with eight kills. Sophomore Aurora Ebert-Santos led WVU in blocks with 14 while senior Brandice Studnicka finished with 13.
Coastal Carolina was led by Ashley Schieble who finished with 9 kills and Alicia Myers who posted a 20 dig performance.
West Virginia completes their weekend at the Flyer Invitational this evening when they play tournament host Dayton at 7:30 p.m.
