Volleyball: WVU Falls in Season Opener

DAYTON, Ohio – The West Virginia University volleyball team fell in their season opener 3-2 (30-26, 20-30, 26-30, 30-19, 10-15) to Tennessee Tech on Friday, September 3, at the Dayton Invitational in Dayton, Ohio.
West Virginia defeated Tennessee Tech in the opening game before falling in the second and third games of the match. WVU tied the contest at two apiece after winning game four but fell to the Golden Eagles in the fifth and deciding game.
The Mountaineers (0-1) were paced by junior Stephanie Zolna who finished the match with 20 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Aurora Ebert-Santos led the Mountaineers in digs with 28 while senior Alison Zemanski led WVU with a kill percentage of .343.
Freshman Abby Tevis posted an 11 kill performance in her Mountaineer debut while seasoned veteran Julie Hockenson finished with 14 digs.
Tennessee Tech was led by Anne Morrow who registered 21 kills and Laura Sidorowicz who finished with 29 digs.
The Mountaineers return to action for two matches on Saturday when they take on Coastal Carolina at 10:30 a.m. and tournament host Dayton at 7:30 p.m.
