MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s cross country team made a considerable jump in both the FinishLynx national poll as well as the WCCC mid-Atlantic region poll released on Monday, Sept. 27.
West Virginia, who was ranked 30th in last week’s FinishLynx poll, climbed nine spots to No. 21. WVU made a three spot improvement in the WCCC mid-Atlantic region poll from No. 5 to No. 2.
West Virginia’s drastic improvement in this week’s rankings can be attributed to an outstanding effort over the weekend at the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn. The Mountaineers finished seventh out of 29 teams placing higher than four ranked opponents.
WVU’s top finishers over the weekend were Megan Metcalfe (5th), Tara Struyk (12th), Jennifer Davis (37th), Jennifer Kemp (79th) and Susan Davis (80th).
The Mountaineers return to action when they travel to State College, Pa., on Saturday, Oct. 16, to compete in the Penn State National Open.
