PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Connecticut quarterback Dan Orlovsky has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced. West Virginia's Adam Lehnortt won defensive honors, while Josh Cummings of Pittsburgh was chosen as Special Teams Player of the Week.
Orlovsky (Shelton, Conn.) threw for four touchdown passes as Connecticut posted a 40-3 victory over Army at Rentschler Field. The senior quarterback completed 25-of-34 passes for 288 yards. He threw scoring tosses of 45, 15, three and one yards. The BIG EAST's leading passer, Orlovsky had a completion percentage of 73.5 percent, the 10th best game in UConn history.
Lehnortt (Oil City, Pa.) wins defensive honors after leading the Mountaineer defense in WVU's 45-10 tally over James Madison. The senior linebacker scored his first career touchdown on a 21-yard fumble recovery late in the second quarter. He tallied eight tackles (five solo) in just over two quarters of play, as he left the contest in the third quarter with an ankle sprain. Lehnortt also notched three tackles for loss (12 yards), including a 10-yard sack.
Cummings (Newhall, Calif.) kicked the game-winning 37-yard field goal in Pittsburgh's 41-38 overtime victory over Furman. The junior placekicker also hit a 27-yard attempt and converted on 5-of-5 PATs for a career-high 11 points. It was the Panthers' first overtime win since Oct. 26, 2002 (Boston College). Cummings is perfect on kicks this season, connecting on four field goals and all 10 of his extra point attempts.
