Football: Harris, Jones Honored

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Boston College quarterback Paul Peterson and West Virginia running back Kay-Jay Harris have been named BIG EAST Offensive Players of the Week, the league announced. Syracuse's Anthony Smith and WVU's Adam Jones shared defensive honors, while Adam Graessle of Pittsburgh was chosen as Special Teams Player of the Week.
Peterson (Ephraim, Utah) led the Boston College offense in the Eagles' 27-7 victory over Connecticut. The senior quarterback completed 14-of-23 passes (60.9 percent) for 193 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 25 rushing yards to finish with 218 yards of total offense. Peterson is 6-0 as BC's starting quarterback.
Harris (Tampa, Fla.) wins the award for the second time this season after rushing for 142 yards and a touchdown in a 19-16 overtime win over Maryland. The senior tailback had 32 carries en route to his second game over 100 yards this year. He has rushed for 486 yards in three games this season, the third-best rushing start in BIG EAST history.
Smith (Hubbard, Ohio) wins a weekly award for the second straight time after earning special teams honors a week ago. The junior free safety had a game-high 11 tackles (eight solo) in the Orange's 19-7 win over Cincinnati. He also had an interception which he returned 19 yards and a blocked punt.
Jones (College Park, Ga.) posted a team-high eight tackles in the Mountaineer victory over Maryland. The junior defensive back recorded two interceptions, which he returned for a total of 51 yards, with one pass break-up.
Graessle (Dublin, Ohio) averaged a career-best 47.8 yards on five punts as Pittsburgh dropped a 24-17 decision to Nebraska. The sophomore had 239 punt yards, placing three kicks inside the 20-yard line, including one at the 14 and another at the one. He posted a long kick of 55 yards.
