Morgantown, W.Va. - The West Virginia University men's soccer team kicks of its 2004 season on Friday, Sept. 3, when it travels to No. 2 St. John's.
The Mountaineers head into the game after defeating Washington & Jefferson 4-0 in a pre-season scrimmage last Monday at Mylan Puskar Stadium. Junior Devon McTavish led the way with two goals against the Presidents.
WVU returns nine starters from 2003, yet still boast one of the youngest lineups in the BIG EAST Conference. Coach Mike Seabolt's team has only three seniors and one junior one its roster.
The Red Storm are coming off a stellar 2003 season in which they won the BIG EAST regular season title and made it all the way to the national championship game before falling to Indiana 2-1.
The Red Storm has been selected to win the BIG EAST again in 2004 and have three players on the pre-season all-BIG EAST team including pre-season offensive player of the year Simone Salinno.
Last year WVU fell to the Red Storm 2-1 in a very close match.
The Mountaineers return home Sunday, Sept. 5, when they host Mount St. Mary's as part of the Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium opening ceremonies. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
