There are no tickets remaining for the Maryland game. Football fans can get an early start on the festivities at the Mountaineer Fan Festival taking place inside the Caperton Indoor Practice Facility. The Fan Festival will be open from 9 am until kickoff.
Here is Saturday’s Countdown to Kickoff:
10 – Coach Ralph Friedgen has won TEN of 15 road games since over the Maryland job prior to the 2001 season.
9 – West Virginia has won NINE of its last 10 games dating back to last year. WVU’s lost loss was a 41-7 decision to Maryland in the 2004 Gator Bowl.
8 – Maryland has lost just EIGHT times under Ralph Friedgen in 41 games. Three of those EIGHT losses have come against Florida State.
7 – West Virginia has had SEVEN scoring drives this year covering six plays or more. Two of those drives have spanned 10 plays – both at Central Florida.
6 – West Virginia has had SIX touchdown plays covering 20 yards or longer. Four of those plays came in the opener against East Carolina: a 76-yard Pac-Man Jones punt return, a 76-yard Kay-Jay Harris run, a 60-yard Rasheed Marshall pass to Chris Henry and a 51-yard Kay-Jay Harris run.
5 – West Virginia’s starting FIVE offensive linemen have now made 94 combined starts, led by senior Jeff Berk with 31.
4 – West Virginia quarterback Rasheed Marshall needs one more rushing touchdown to move into a tie with Kerry Marbury for FOURTH place on the school career list.
3 – Saturday’s game marks just the THIRD time these two teams have both been nationally ranked heading into the game. The first time came in 1983, when the No. 20-ranked Mountaineers downed the No. 17-rated Terrapins 31-21 in College Park. Last in the 2004 Gator Bowl, No. 20 West Virginia dropped a 41-7 decision to No. 23 Maryland.
2 – During the last TWO seasons Maryland has had its way with West Virginia, scoring 31 points in the Gator Bowl before WVU got on the board and scoring 34 points at College Park before the Mountaineers crossed the goal line. Maryland claimed a 48-17 victory in Morgantown in 2002.
1 – Maryland holds a ONE-game edge in the series (8-7) over the last 15 games. However, Maryland has won four in a row and five of the last six.
Enjoy Saturday’s game and be sure to stop back for a complete post-game wrap up.
