Cross Country: Metcalfe Places First

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – West Virginia University senior cross country runner Megan Metcalfe finished first out of a field of 80 Division I runners with a time of 17:07.34 on Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Indiana State Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.
As a team, the Mountaineers finished third ahead of six other D-I schools. WVU finished with a total of 70 points, 36 behind the first place Michigan Wolverines. The Mountaineers finished just 20 points behind second place Arkansas.
Entering the weekend, West Virginia was ranked 30th in the FinishLynx national cross country poll while Michigan was seventh and Arkansas was 18th.
Senior Jennifer Davis was West Virginia’s second best finisher at sixth place (17:56.71) while senior Jennifer Kemp (18:31.71) and junior Susan Davis (18:43.85) both cracked the top 25 at 17th and 23rd respectively.
Senior Devon Plesuk placed 28th (18:56.98), freshman Nicole Lemal finished 43rd (19:27.39), junior Colleen Hughes crossed the line in 49th (19:41.55), freshman Nicole Dorinzi finished 51st (19:51.47), senior Rachel Carden placed 55th (20:07.37) and freshman Melinda BerryAnn finished 56th (20:08.87).
The Mountaineers have a week off before returning to action on Saturday, Sept. 25, when they travel to St. Paul, Minn., to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational.
