MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s cross country team (4-0) travels to Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday, Sept. 11, for the Indiana State Invitational.

Senior Megan Metcalfe led the way for WVU with a first place finish and a Schenley Park Oval course record time of 17:18. Senior Jennifer Davis placed 3rd, junior Susan Davis finished 5th, freshman Nicole Lemal crossed the line in 12th and junior Colleen Hughes recorded a 19th place finish.
A total of 15 teams are competing in this weekend’s race including Alabama Birmingham, Arkansas, Butler, DePaul, Greenville, Indiana State, Michigan, Oakland City, Ohio Northern, Rose-Hulman, Southeast Missouri, Vincennes and West Virginia.
The site of Indiana State Invitational, the LaVern Gibson Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center, is also the site of the 2004 NCAA cross country championships. Coach Jeff Huntoon is looking for his team to gain experience on the course so it will be prepared if the squad is able to make a return trip as a team in November.
Saturday’s race is scheduled to begin at approximately 9 a.m.
