MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University women's soccer player Ashley Banks has been named BIG EAST rookie of the week for her efforts at the UK Invitational.
A native of Annandale, Va., Banks scored three goals in her first career start, leading the Mountaineers to a record-setting 7-0 win over Ohio on Sunday, Aug. 29.
The freshman midfielder tied a school record for goals in a game, becoming only the fifth Mountaineer in WVU history to tally three goals in a match.
Banks also played valuable minutes in WVU's 3-2 double overtime win over Kentucky on Friday, Aug. 27.
The honor is the first of Banks' young career and the first of West Virginia's season.
Banks and the rest of the Mountaineers will return to action for the first-ever match in Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m., versus Purdue. Dedication of the new facility will come prior to the 2 p.m., match on Sunday, Sept. 5, versus No.10 Virginia.
