This is the fourth year West Virginia has had Fan Day and the primary catalyst for this event was WVU coach Rich Rodriguez.
“Coach Rodriguez came to us and said this is something he wanted to do to get the team out in front of everybody and take a couple of hours to sign autographs and take pictures,” said Brad Howe, Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Sales.
“The point of this is to give the fans their first opportunity to see the Mountaineers before the season gets here. People are so excited this time of the year and it’s just a good chance for them to meet the team and get some autographs.
“It’s a free event which is the biggest thing. Everybody is in here and the coaches and players stay for about two hours,” he added.
West Virginia concluded two-a-day practices Saturday with an afternoon scrimmage. Classes start on the WVU campus Monday, Aug. 22.
West Virginia’s season opener is Saturday, Sept. 4, against East Carolina at 6 pm. Tickets still remain for that came and can be purchased by calling the Mountaineer Ticket Office toll-free at 1-800-WVU GAME or by logging onto WVUGAME.com.
