MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University baseball coach Greg Van Zant announced today the signing of centerfielder Adam White during the spring signing period.
"We are very happy that Adam White signed with us last week,” says Van Zant. “He has a chance to be an outstanding defensive centerfielder for us because of his athleticism and great speed. Adam runs the 60-yard dash in the 6.5-second range which will make him an instant base stealing threat. He will be one of the fastest runners in the conference next year. He also looks good in the batter's box and has a chance to be an excellent hitter for us."
The Philipsburg, Pa., native (Philipsburg-OsceolaHigh School) was one of the top hitters in the state with a .545 batting average and .824 slugging percentage. The all-Central Penn League performer hit safely in 20 of 22 games, tallying six home runs and 19 RBI. His 44 hits broke the school record he set last season. The team captain stole eight bases and scored 29 runs for head coach Doug Sankey.
White is an athletic player with great speed on the basepaths. The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder was an all-state tailback who chose baseball over football. His father was also an all-American wrestler at Penn State.
