Women's Track: Two Advance to Finals

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two West Virginia University athletes qualified for Saturday’s finals at the 2004 NCAA East Regional Track and Field Championships in Gainesville, Fla., Friday evening.
Junior Jennifer Kemp finished second in her heat of the 800-meter run with a season-best time of 2:06.21. Kemp’s time was the fifth-fastest Friday; Florida’s Kamille Brato won the heat with a top time of 2:06.02.
Also, freshman Jessica Czaikowski ran a season-best time of 13:58 to finish second in her heat of the women’s 100 hurdles. Czaikowski advances to Saturday’s finals where she can qualify for nationals with a top five finish. Florida’s Andrea Bliss had the fastest time Friday with a 13:05 clocking.
Junior Pam Richardson failed to advance to the finals in the 400 hurdles, placing fifth in her heat with a time of 1:03.19.
Kemp and Czaikowski join twins Jennifer and Susan Davis in Saturday’s finals. The Davis twins will run the 3,000-meter steeplechase tomorrow evening at 8 pm. The 100 hurdle finals are at 6:30 while the 800-meter finals are scheduled to get underway at 7:15.
Junior Tara Struyk has already qualified for nationals in the 10,000 and opted not to compete this weekend.
