MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women’s tennis coach Dan Silverstein has signed two top prospects to NCAA letters-of-intent, he announced today.
Giving Silverstein signatures were 5-foot-11 Monica Lyskawa of Brampton, Ontario, and 5-foot-8 Natalia Prinz of Tczew, Poland. Both players are righthanders.
Prinz is ranked among Poland’s Top 15 players in 18s and brings a high level of international playing experience to WVU. Prinz has claimed more than 25 junior tennis tournaments and competed in her country’s championships in each of the past four years.
“Natalia is a tremendous talent and we are thrilled to have her at WVU,” said Silverstein. “She will be an impact player for us and I believe she is another piece of the puzzle in our pursuit of a Big East championship.”
Lyskawa was considered one of Canada’s Top 25 players as a 14, 16 and 18-year-old. She was a Top 20 player in 18s OTA in both 2003 and 2004 and was a 2000 Canadian Winter/Summer national team member. She won the Polish Open Championship for Canada in 2003.
“Monica is another international player who comes to WVU with an impressive resume,” said Silverstein. “Monica is going to be one of our most athletic players this fall. I believe she is going to challenge for a top three spot in our lineup this fall as a freshman. We look forward to four outstanding years from Monica.”
Previously, Silverstein announced the signing of Kate Williams and Stacey Percival last November. Williams is a native of Western Springs, Ill., while Percival is an Aiken, S.C., resident.
West Virginia finished the 2004 spring season with a 10-9 overall record including a 3-6 record in Big East action.
