Baseball: WVU Set for Hokie/Hoya Road Trip

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team takes to the road for a pair of BIG EAST doubleheaders this weekend.
On Friday, April 23, the Mountaineers battle Virginia Tech at 4 p.m. at English Field in Blacksburg, Va. On Sunday, April 25, WVU takes on Georgetown at Povich Field in Bethesda, Md., with the first pitch of game one set for noon.
The Mountaineers (12-21, 3-10) have won three of their last four games, including an 18-hit win at Duquesne. WVU is led offensively by sophomore outfielder Stan Posluszny, who is batting .355 with five home runs and 26 RBI.
“It will be a challenging weekend, but one we look forward to,” said head coach Greg Van Zant. “Last weekend we won the series against Villanova and Tuesday we beat a solid Duquesne team. It is important to continue playing hard and just take one game at a time.”
Virginia Tech (19-16, 6-7) is coming off a loss at Virginia, 21-10, on Wednesday. Sean O’Brien is batting .393 with five home runs and 30 RBIto pace the Hokies’ offense.
Last season, the Mountaineers took three games from Virginia Tech, including a 10-0 shutout victory in the BIG EAST tournament. The Hokies lead the all-time series, 48-27-1, which began 1922.
Georgetown (20-23, 5-11) defeated Coppin State on Tuesday night, 15-7, and will play two games at Pitt this weekend. A year ago, the Mountaineers defeated the Hoyas in two regular season contests in Morgantown.
The Hoyas lead the all-time series against WVU by a 24-17 margin.
West Virginia concludes its nine-game road stretch with a single game at Maryland on Wednesday, April 28.
