MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women's tennis team dropped their third straight conference match on Friday, April 9, when they fell to Syracuse, 7-0, at the Pittsburgh YMCA in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Syracuse defeated West Virginia in straight sets in five of six singles matches. Sophomore Raynie Theis had the most success of any Mountaineer on the day losing in three sets to Jessica Schlosser, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
West Virginia fell in each of its three doubles matches on the day. The duo of Theis and freshman Kelly Walsh fell to Syracuse's Lipton and Huignard, 8-6, in the closest doubles contest of the afternoon.
"This is a disappointing loss to say the least," coach Dan Silverstein says. "This will be a learning tool for our team. We must compete better against a solid Toledo team Wednesday."
West Virginia returns to action on Wednesday, April 14, when they take to the road for a non-conference match against Toledo.
