Rowing: WVU Takes Seventh at GW Invitational

Washington D.C, - The West Virginia rowing team took eighth place in varsity eight competition on Saturday, April 10, at the GW Invitational Crew Classic in Washington D.C.
In the preliminary race the Mountaineers finished the course on the Potomac River in a time of 6:27.49. While Tennessee, USC, Iowa and Navy moved on to the grand final, WVU raced in the petite final against George Washington, St. Joseph’s and Georgetown.
In the petite final the eight boat raced the course in 6:54. 73, which put the Mountaineers ahead of the Hoyas by nearly 10 seconds and three seconds behind St. Joseph’s for a third place finish.
Also competing for WVU Saturday for the first time this season was the varsity eight second boat as well as the novice varsity eight boat. The second varsity eight took third place in the petite final, knocking off George Mason by over three seconds. In the novice eight’s race they finished fourth in the petite final behind George Washington, Iowa and George Mason.
The team has little time to rest before the next time they hit the water in competition. The Mountaineers travel to Camden, N.J., next weekend, April 17-18, to compete in the prestigious Knect Cup.
