Women's Track: Heptathletes Fare Well at Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, ALA. - West Virginia's Abbie Stechschulte finished fourth out of nine competitors in the heptathlon with 4,664 points at the Alabama Relays on Mar. 18-19 at the Sam Bailey Track in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The Columbus Grove, Ohio, native finished third in the heptathlon's 100 meter hurdles (14.75), second in the shot put (11.03m), third in the javelin throw (32.78m) and second in the 800 meters (2:32.72) in the first outdoor meet of her career.
Sophomore Nancy Regalbuto finished sixth with a total of 4,181 points. The Hedgesville, W.Va, native's best finish was a tie for second in the high jump with a leap of 1.61 meters.
Junior Mary Greene was the third and final Mountaineer to compete in the weekend's relays. The Richwood, W.Va., native finish one place behind Regalbuto at seventh with 3,941 points. She was the heptathlon's javelin throw champion (35.43m) and finished in a tie for third in the high jump (1.58m).
The WVU outdoor track team opens the season as a unit on Mar. 26-27 when they compete in the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
