Women's Tennis: WVU Tops Colgate

SAN DIEGO – The West Virginia University women’s tennis team closed out their California road trip with a 5-2 victory over Colgate on Monday, Mar. 15, in San Diego.
The Mountaineers (7-3) finished their road swing 2-0 after defeating Colgate Monday and Cal State Northridge on Sunday, Mar. 14, by a score of 4-3.
In Monday’s action, Raynie Theis, Kelly Walsh, Courtney Howell and Ashley Constantine each posted singles victories on the afternoon.
In doubles play, the duo of Melissa Day and Watkins defeated Colgate’s Wenink/Rao, 8-4, while Theis and Walsh clinched the doubles point for the Mountaineers with an 8-2 victory over Lipp/Corture.
“At 7-3, we are feeling great about the tennis we are playing right now,” coach Dan Silverstein says. “We are looking forward to having some time off to prepare for our most critical stretch of the season.”
The Mountaineers return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 31, when they play host to Morgan State. After hosting the Bears, the Mountaineers enter a stretch consisting of five consecutive BIG EAST matches.
