MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team hosts Stony Brook this weekend for a three-game series at Hawley Field. A doubleheader on Saturday, March 13, is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. A single game on Sunday, March 14, will get underway at 1 p.m.
“It will be nice to have a weekend at home after three consecutive weekends on the road,” says head coach Greg Van Zant. “They played us tough a year ago and are very well coached. Stony Brook will be a big challenge for us as they are off to a good start this season.”
Stony Brook carries a four-game win streak into this weekend following a 7-1 victory over Hofstra on Thursday. Stony Brook is led offensively by designated hitter Nick Theoharis and outfielder Isidro Fortuna. Jon Lewis and Kevin Fitzgerald anchor the Seawolves pitching staff.
West Virginia enters weekend play after a two-game sweep of Quinnipiac in the season opener at Hawley Field. West Virginia took two of three games from Stony Brook in Bluefield, W.Va., last year to hold a 2-1 series advantage against the Seawolves.
U-92 (WWVU 91.7 FM) will carry game two live on Saturday afternoon.
