MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University gymnastics team (12-6-1) plays host to Bowling Green in its final home meet of the season on Saturday, March 13 at 7 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum.
The Mountaineers enter the competition fresh off a record-setting sweep of a tri-meet at Pitt on Tuesday, March 9. West Virginia set the school record with a 197.4 overall score, set a new balance beam record with a 49.55 mark and both Jessica Bartgis and Janáe Cox topped the previous high all-around total with a 39.625 and a 39.65, respectively.
Bowling Green (5-7) last competed against Central Michigan on March 7, losing to CMU 196.225-195.9, despite tallying the second highest team score in BGSU history.
The overall series between the two schools is knotted at 5-5. The last time WVU met Bowling Green, the Mountaineers topped the Falcons 187.10-180.90 in a tri-meet with North Carolina in 1992.
WVU head coach Linda Burdette enters the meet with a 499-204-3 overall record in 30 seasons with the Mountaineers. A victory over BGSU will make Burdette only the third coach in West Virginia history to reach the 500 win mark, joining volleyball's Veronica Hammersmith and former Mountaineer baseball coach, the late Dale Ramsburg.
