Women's Tennis: WVU Knocks Off Georgetown

ARLINGTON, Va. – The West Virginia University women’s tennis team (5-1) defeated Georgetown (1-8) in BIG EAST action, 7-0, on Sunday, Feb. 29, at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va.
West Virginia’s toughest match of the day came when Melissa Day defeated Georgetown’s Jordan Botjer in a three set thriller 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. The rest of the Mountaineers coasted to victories in straight sets.
In No. 1 doubles, the tandem of Day and Jennifer Watkins defeated Botjer and Lara Madonia 8-2. Raynie Theis and Kelly Walsh defeated Kristin Dew and Sana Malouf 8-1 in No. 2 doubles while Courtney Howell and Ashley Constantine topped Georgetown’s Eileen Boyle and Nora Gardner 8-0at the three spot.
“I thought the girls executed extremely well,” coach Dan Silverstein says. “We feel like we are playing pretty solid tennis right now and it was great to get another victory in conference play.”
The Mountaineers return to the court on Friday, Mar. 5, when they travel to take on the Cincinnati Bearcats in a 6 p.m. contest.
