MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The 20th-ranked West Virginia University wrestling team travels to Blacksburg, Va., on Sunday, Feb. 8, to face Virginia Tech in their first EWL road contest of the year. The Mountaineers battle the Hokies at 2 p.m., at the Cassell Coliseum.
The Hokies return one NCAA qualifier and nine lettermen from a year ago. The Mountaineers scored two falls, four major decisions and a technical fall to defeat Virginia Tech, 36-12, in Morgantown last year.
“On paper we might be the favorite but we’ve learned to take everybody serious in this league,” says head coach Craig Turnbull. “Virginia Tech has some guys who will challenge us at certain weights. They will be excited for us to come there and we need to be ready to wrestle at every weight class.”
West Virginia owns an 11-6 mark all-time against Virginia Tech.
The Mountaineers return to the WVU Coliseum for their final home contest on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 8 p.m., against Lock Haven.
