MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Three members of the West Virginia University women's track team clinched spots in postseason competition during the first day of the State Farm Games on Friday, Feb. 6, in the WVU Shell Building.
Freshman Abbie Stechschulte had a break out evening in the pentathlon. The Columbus Grove, Ohio, native qualified for the ECAC Championships with a career high score of 3,470 en route to a first place finish. Stechschulte crossed the line in the 55m high hurdles with a time of 8.33, cleared the high jump in 1.56m, finished with a shot put throw of 8.46m, had a long jump mark of 5.35m and ran the 800m dash in 2:37.81.
Sophomore Nancy Regalbuto had her own share of success on what turned out to be a career night. The Hedgesville, W.Va., native finished second in the pentathlon (3,325) and qualified for the ECAC Championships in the high jump with a personal best mark of 1.70m. Regalbuto's performance in the pentathlon, just 25 points shy of ECAC standards, moved her up to fourth place on the all-time pentathlon points list at West Virginia.
Junior Mary Greene also achieved a career mark on the night. The Richwood, W.Va., native qualified for the BIG EAST Championships in the high jump with a career best leap of 1.65m. Greene finished fifth in the evening's pentathlon with 3,130 points.
