MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women's tennis team looks to extend their two-match winning streak when they take to the court for three matches over a four day stretch beginning Thursday, Feb. 26, against Duquesne (3-1).
The Mountaineers (3-1, 1-1) close out the three game set by hosting Maryland-Baltimore County (0-3) at the Oxford Athletic Club in Monroeville, Pa., on Saturday before traveling to Arlington, Va., to take on BIG EAST foe Georgetown (0-7) on Sunday.
West Virginia is coming off a solid performance in which the Mountaineers upended previously undefeated St. John's. Senior Jennifer Watkins catapulted the Mountaineers to a narrow 4-3 victory by defeating Hande Gorur, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the final match of the day.
"This weekend marks another critical stretch for our team," coach Dan Silverstein says. "It's vital that we maintain focus and continue to move forward as the season progresses. We have an opportunity to get another win against a conference opponent which would help us move another step closer to our goal of making the BIG EAST tournament."
Thursday's match with Duquense is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday's matches against UMBC and Georgetown are set to begin at noon.
