MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University basketball coach John Beilein will not be on the bench for tonight's home contest against St. John's due to a series of back spasms that flared up this afternoon following a morning workout.
WVU Assistant Coach Jeff Neubauer will take over the coaching duties for tonight's game with assistance from coaches Jerry Dunn and Matt Brown.
"This is the first game I've ever had to miss in more than 800 games of coaching," said Beilein. "The pain is so intense that I couldn't possibly coach the game tonight, and the only way I could coach is if I was flat on my back. I'll continue to get treatment so that I can return as soon as possible."
