MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University women's track All-American Megan Metcalfe is currently ranked second nationally in the 3,000 meters category of the Trackwire Dandy Dozen as announced Wednesday, Feb. 10, by Trackwire.com.
The Edmonton, Alberta, native competed in the 3,000 meters for the first time this season at the State Farm Games on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the WVU Shell Building. Metcalfe crossed the line in 9:59.42 en route to her second event title in as many weeks. On Jan. 31, the distance standout set a facilities record at the Penn State National Open in the 1,000 meters with a winning time of 2:46.78.
West Virginia's distance medley relay squad is eighth in the nation according to the same source. The Mountaineers competed in the DMR just once this season at the Penn State National Open. The team consisting of sophomore Susan Davis and juniors Pam Richardson, Rachel Carden and Jennifer Davis placed in sixth with a time of 12:00.43.
The Trackwire Dandy Dozen is a power ranking of the top 12 athletes and relay squads in each NCAA event. The factors used to build the Dandy Dozen include quantitative values that measure performances in past major competitions (such as conference championships, national championships and Olympic competition), durability and freedom from injuries, demonstrated ability to compete well in multiple rounds of competition, ability in other events, head-to-head competition with other top athletes and personal or seasonal bests.
The WVU track team is set to return to action on Friday, Feb. 13, when they travel to State College, Pa., to compete in the Challenge Cup.
