MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s track team opens the 2004 indoor season on Saturday, Dec. 4, when they host the WVU Holiday Classic at the WVU Shell Building.
A total of 14 teams and three track clubs will compete in the day-long event. The colleges and universities participating are Bowie State, California (Pa.), Carnegie Mellon, Concord, Duquesne, Frostburg State, Marshall, McDaniel, Robert Morris, Washington and Jefferson, West Liberty State and West Virginia Wesleyan.
While most of West Virginia’s squad is slated to participate in the meet, many of the Mountaineer distance runners will rest after running in the NCAA cross country championships on Nov. 21.
WVU experienced one of its best cross country seasons in recent memory after winning the Mid-Atlantic regional championship for the first time in school history and finishing the season ranked 15th in the country.
Saturday’s field events are set to begin at approximately 9:30 a.m. with the track events beginning at 12:15 p.m. The final event of the day, the 4x400m relay, is scheduled to start at 5:20 p.m.
