MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University women’s soccer players Laura Kane and Ashley Weimer have recently been named Scholar All-Americans by the NSCAA/adidas.
The honor is the second Scholar All-America accolade for Kane, a Pottstown, Pa., native. A first-team selection in 2004, the physical education/teaching major was a second-team honoree last year. Kane, who recently earned All-America honors after an eight-goal, nine-assist performance as a senior forward, boasts a 3.78 overall GPA.
Weimer, a 2004 Pennsylvania state finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship, is a second team Scholar All-America honoree. A nursing major, the North Huntingdon, Pa., native carries a 3.92 GPA. As a senior defender, Weimer helped the Mountaineers to a 15-6-0 record in 2004, by scoring three goals and adding seven assists for a career-best 13 points.
Kane and Weimer’s placement on the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-America team marks the third-straight season that a West Virginia women’s soccer player has earned the honor (Melissa Haire, 2002; Laura Kane 2003). It is also the fourth time in the history of WVU women’s soccer that a team member was named to the Scholar All-America team (Stacey Sollmann, 1997).
Likewise, the recognition marks the first time in Mountaineer women’s soccer history that two members of the same team have earned Scholar All-America honors in the same year.
