SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The West Virginia University volleyball team defeated BIG EAST foe Seton Hall 3-0 (31-29, 30-26, 30-28) in three hard-fought games on Saturday, Nov. 6, in South Orange, N.J.
The Mountaineers (18-10, 4-3) topped the Pirates 31-29 in an extended game one before sweeping SHU in the second and third games by scores of 30-26 and 30-28 respectively.
West Virginia was led by junior Stephanie Zolna who recorded a game-high 17 kills to go along with a .293 hitting percentage. Junior Kelly Mullins finished the match with 11 kills while senior Alison Zemanski added 11.
Senior Brandice Studnicka led WVU with 42 assists while sophomore Aurora Ebert-Santos was the Mountaineer dig leader with 20 on the afternoon. Studnicka added 12 digs while freshman Ashley Pappas registered seven.
Seton Hall’s Alex Dyer was the only Pirate to record a double digit number of kills with 12. Shawn McDonald led SHU in assists and digs with 36 and 17 respectively.
West Virginia completes its New Jersey road trip with a 2 p.m. match at Rutgers on Sunday, Nov. 7, in Piscataway, N.J. The Scarlet Knights (14-9, 2-5) enter Sunday’s match on an emotional high after handing Pitt its first BIG EAST loss (3-2) of the season on Friday.
