Women's Soccer: WVU Travels to Pitt

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The 19th-ranked West Virginia University women's soccer team travels to conference foe Pitt on Wednesday, October 6, for a 7 p.m., match at Founders Field in Indianola, Pa.
Fresh off a 4-1 win over Syracuse on Sunday, October 3, the Mountaineers (9-3-0, 4-2-0) look to remove themselves from a three-way tie for second place in the BIG EAST with the contest against the Panthers (4-4-1, 1-2-1).
West Virginia has won seven of the eight previous matches versus Pitt. The two schools last met in 2003 when the Mountaineers downed the Panthers 4-2 in Morgantown.
On the year WVU is led by Rachael Minnich's 17 points. The junior forward has scored seven goals and tallied three assists in 12 matches. Junior Marisa Kanela and senior Laura Kane round out West Virginia's top three scorers with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
In this week's polls, West Virginia has maintained its spot in the Top 25 for the 27th consecutive week. The Mountaineers are ranked No.19 by SoccerBuzz, No. 20 by NSCAA/adidas and No. 21 by Soccer America.
Following Wednesday's match, the Mountaineers are next in action when they travel to Binghamton for a non-conference contest at noon, on Sunday, Oct. 10.
