MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 22 West Virginia University women’s cross country team travels to Boston on Friday, Oct. 29, to compete in the 2004 BIG EAST championships.
The Mountaineers, who return every runner from 2003, will look to improve on their seventh place finish at the championships a year ago.
West Virginia is one of five ranked teams competing in Friday’s race. No. 2 Providence, No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 15 Villanova and No. 25 Boston College are the other four schools that are currently ranked in FinishLynx’s top 30.
WVU will count on major contributions from senior All-American Megan Metcalfe who finished first overall at both the Duquesne Duals and the Indiana State Invitational to open the 2004 season. In West Virginia’s most recent races, the Edmonton, Alberta, native has placed fifth at the Roy Griak Invitational and fourth at the Penn State Classic.
Seniors Tara Struyk, Jennifer Davis, Jennifer Kemp, Devon Plesuk and Rachel Carden and junior Susan Davis will be crucial to West Virginia’s success on Friday.
Friday’s 6K race is scheduled to begin at approximately 11:50 a.m.
